Some might think that the Thanko Solo Grill is a proof of how lonely and depressing life for many Tokyoites is: a tiny (180 x 107 x 86 mm, 7 x 4.2 x 3.4") grill that only makes yakiniku barbecue for one? Where's the fun in that? Yakiniku BBQ should be big-party affairs where everyone is sitting around the grill and cooking their food over beers and lively conversation. But the truth is that many Japanese actually prefer a quiet night at home and this miniature device allows them to enjoy their yakiniku without the fuss.
And to be fair, the Thanko Solo Grill isn't that small: its plate is 140 x 90 mm (5.5 x 3.5"), which is perfect for grilling two slices of prime beef. If you know your yakiniku, you know it only takes a few minutes for the slice to be perfectly cooked, so if you get the timing right, the Solo Grill can see you through a whole night of BBQing. It takes care of the temperature with its stepless slider, allowing settings from about 50°C to 240°C (122°F to 464°F), and won't be a burden when you are washing the dishes afterwards since you only need to wash the plate!
