Porco Rosso Belt

Studio Ghibli anime webbed belt

There were all kinds of seaplanes flying over the Adriatic Sea in the 1930s. People would fly among the islands for business or pleasure or, as in the case of the Air Pirates Union, led by the Mamma Aiuto gang, for unlawful purposes. Luckily, there was one ace pilot who would make sure that the pirates weren't going to have their way, the amazing Porco Rosso (Red Pig) and this is where the story of the eponymous 1992 film by Hayao Miyazaki starts. And also where the Porco Rosso Belt takes its inspiration from!

Webbed like a standard soldier's or adventurer's belt, and with an iron buckle featuring the letters GBL over the legend Studio Ghibli, the Porco Rosso Belt is about 136 cm (53.5") long and 3.3 cm (1.2") wide, and made of strong polyester. Printed on its length is the legend "Aero Viking Association," an alternative rendering of the Air Pirates Union, and over it beautiful and colorful drawings of the planes of members of the union, starting with Mamma Aiuto's Dabohaze and ending with the Curtiss R3C flown by Donald Curtis, Porco's rival in the film!
