Kiwi Bird Fruit Plush Mascot

New Zealand bird and fruit cuddly accessory

What is a kiwi? A bird that has been so strongly related to its habitat, New Zealand, that it has become a national symbol and a nickname for its citizens. But it's also a fruit, an edible berry that for many years was only found in China and which after WWII started being cultivated in New Zealand. It got its name when its fuzzy looks reminded growers of the bird. Apparently the similarity wasn't lost on the Japanese, who have a special love for words that sound the same but mean different things, and they came up with this funny and extremely cute item: the Kiwi Bird Fruit Plush Mascot!

The Kiwi Bird Fruit Plush Mascot is about 8 x 6 x 10 cm (3.1 x 2.4 x 3.9") and made of soft polyester, making it very cuddly – like any self-respecting kawaii (adorable) plush toy should be! Its shape is just like the kiwi bird but also comes with a foam net (like those used for kiwi fruit in Japan to make sure they don't get squished) and also with a leather charm shaped like a slice of the fruit. In other words, this is a kiwi accompanied by, well, a kiwi! And it also comes with a ball chain so you can hang it from your bag and always carry it around with you.
