Japanese Food Sample Spaghetti Napolitana Kit

Fake food model DIY craft project

Food samples, the 3D models of the food sold inside, are a common sight outside restaurants in Japan. Even expensive restaurants have adopted the practice, claiming they really help potential patrons decide if they want to get in. The Japanese Food Sample Spaghetti Napolitana Kit lets you decide for yourself, since it contains everything you need to make a delicious-looking dish of the tomato sauce pasta that was first introduced in Yokohama during the American Occupation after WWII and became one of the most loved yoshoku (Japanese interpretation of Western kitchen) dishes!

Like with all food samples, the main material used in the Japanese Food Sample Spaghetti Napolitana Kit is wax. This hasn't really changed since the 1920s, when the craft of making food samples was introduced to Japan's restaurants. Using warm water and a pair of scissors, you can shape the parts into the pasta, tomato, green peppers, and sausages that make up a real plate of Napolitana (or "Naporitan" in Japanese) and there's even a stand and a fork you can use to make the end result look as if someone has twirled up a mouthful of spaghetti and lifted it from the plate to eat!
