Nippon Kodo Kafu Iris Incense

Floral-themed traditional fragrance

Even in a day and age when most live in mega-cities like Tokyo and Osaka, the Japanese have a soft spot for nature and the way it interacts with the weather. Just as the indigenous peoples of Alaska have 50 words for snow, so the Japanese have a similar number for rain and since it rains a lot in the Land of the Rising Sun, people love the way rain makes flowers and their fragrances stand out. Which is exactly what makes the Nippon Kodo Kafu Iris Incense so special!

The incense craftspeople of Nippon Kodo, one of Japan's oldest incense makers, have here duplicated the fragrance of iris flowers after the rain as it travels in the wind. Although its main note is unmistakably iris, as it burns you can also discern hints of galbanum, ylang-ylang, jasmin, violet, patchouli, musk, and vetiver as well as konjac, all perfectly balanced in these 140 mm (5.5") sticks that burn for about 25 minutes while emitting very little smoke!
