Pocket Chef

Easy, compact no-water cooker

Half of the cooking appliances on the market claim to take all the fuss out of cooking and enable you to create delicious dishes from your first try. As you might have found out, very often these claims are a little exaggerated but there are times when an appliance comes that actually delivers a level of simplicity that would be comprehensible even to a five-year-old. The Pocket Chef is one such appliance!

Consisting of a zippered bag and a controller, Iris Ohyama's Pocket Chef only asks you to put the chicken, fish, or vegetables you want to cook in a Ziploc-style bag, add some seasonings, seal it, and then put it in its own bag and zip it closed. You can set it to the precise temperature you want between 40°C and 80°C (104°F and 176°F) and the time you want (anything between 1 minute and 9 hours!), and then let it do its magic. Using the principle of low temperature cooking, the Pocket Chef prepares your food while you are doing something else and will even beep to let you know it's ready!
