Mini Kagami-biraki Komodaru Sake Cask

Traditional sake barrel ornament

A traditional part of marking Oshogatsu (New Year) in Japan, the custom of "breaking the mochi" (kagami-biraki) has evolved to mean not only breaking open the rice cakes that are piled up over the New Year period but also smashing open a large wooden barrel of Japanese sake at the start of an event. This miniature version pays tribute to this custom, created by specialist crafts studio Kishimoto Kichi Shoten. The Mini Kagami-biraki Komodaru Sake Cask is vibrantly colored and designed with classic motifs. The set includes a wooden hammer, ladle and sake cups, and the lid is already "broken" so you can repeat the Kagami-biraki ritual over and over again. Fill it with sake and share with friends at a party or special occasion, such as at a wedding or the New Year countdown on December 31st!
