Shrimp Sushi Model Kit

DIY Japanese food model

Not all sushi is raw fish on rice: one of the most popular varieties of nigiri sushi (i.e., the old-school way, where the topping is just laid on top of a handful of rice) is the one with boiled shrimp on top. It isn't that the Japanese don't like eating their shrimp raw, mind you. But there's something pleasing to the eye in the contrast of the bright orange color of the boiled shrimp and the shiny white of the rice, which the Shrimp Sushi Model Kit captures perfectly.

To make this realistic, 1/1 replica of a piece of sushi ready for serving, you will need the model kit itself, plus a pair of tweezers, a pair of scissors, and some glue. But also some patience because there are 364 grains of rice in the kit and you have to put them all together to bring the 3 cm (1.1") tall piece of sushi come to life. But like a real piece of sushi, the result will reward you –at least visually!
