Arigato Necklace

Japanese message jewelry

Kanji, the complicated logogram characters the Japanese imported from China and use to write most of their nouns, adjectives, and verbs are one of the reasons the Japanese language is infamously difficult: there are many, each has at least two different readings, and often several meanings. There is more to the Japanese language than kanji, though, and some of its most important words are written in the phonetic script called hiragana, including the word at the heart of the Arigato Necklace!

Arigato means "thank you" and is written using five hiragana characters: a, ri, g”, to, and u. The necklace comprises these five characters written in freehand form and rendered in K10 gold or 925 silver. The word itself is 3.2 cm (1.3") long and comes with a 45 cm (17.7") chain that can be adjusted to your neck or style of dress you are wearing. "Thank you" is a beautiful, heart-warming phrase in all languages, illustrated here through the delicate lines of this exquisite piece of jewelry!
