Kasanefuku Pasta (Pack of 3)

Japan's Gunma Prefecture has a handmade ornament-toy for children called a kasafuku, featuring small dolls of different shapes made from cloth and hanging by string from something that looks like a red umbrella. What does that have to do with the Kasanefuku Pasta? Well, pretty much everything! Drawing inspiration from that craft, the makers of this one-of-a-kind pasta have tried to shape the pieces as much like the toy as possible!

The Kasanefuku Pasta's red color comes from the beet paste that has been kneaded into its dough. And its pieces are shaped as five of the most popular lucky charms when making a kasafuku decoration: the magic mallet of the god Daikokuten, the plum blossom, the gourd, the sea bream, and the overlapping circles motif called shippo. All are good fortune talismans, so every time you cook the pasta, besides being a dish that looks and tastes great, you also get a boost of good luck!
