Crystal Rubik's Cube

How can you keep a toy/puzzle like the Rubik's Cube relevant half a century after its introduction? Especially when its solution has been known for so long that for at least a couple decades, the point isn't how to solve it but how to do so as fast as possible (the world record is 3.13 seconds!). One way is through changing both the gameplay and visuals, and this is what companies around the world have been doing for years. The Crystal Rubik's Cube is the most recent such variation, created by the official Japanese maker of the cube, MegaHouse.

Smaller than the regular cube that is 3 x 3 and 57 x 57 x 57 mm (2.2 x 2.2 x 2.2") big, the Crystal Rubik's Cube only has four tiles on each side and is 46 x 46 x 46 mm (1.8 x 1.8 x 1.8"). This means it can be solved in less time than the standard cube but not in the standard way, precisely because it is smaller. What makes it a must-have for Rubik's Cube collectors, though, is its looks: thanks to the transparent material, it's more sparkling and colors look much brighter that those on the regular cube!
