Nippon Kodo Kafu Blue Rose Platina Incense

Floral-themed traditional fragrance

In one of his poems, English 19th- and early 20th-century writer and poet Rudyard Kipling used the blue rose as a metaphor for something that doesn't exist. The research and technology department of Suntory (yes, the one mostly known for its whiskies) decided to try the impossible and create an actual blue rose and started in 1990 a project that would last over a decade and would end, in 2002, with a lavender/mauve rose. Suntory called it the Blue Rose Applause and it is this rose that has inspired the Nippon Kodo Kafu Blue Rose Platina Incense.

More than that story, though, the Nippon Kodo Kafu Blue Rose Platina Incense's real appeal lies in the scent: Nippon Kodo has been making incense for 450 years so its craftspeople take great pride in their work and have really managed to infuse these 140 mm (5.5") sticks with a floral cocktail that has Suntory's Blue Rose Applause as its protagonist, supported by overtones of lemon and citrus. The sticks burn for about 25 minutes and emit very little smoke, so work fine even with closed windows.
