Kumamon Nightlight

Kumamoto Prefecture mascot portable tabletop lamp

All prefectures in Japan have their mascot but only one has managed to go beyond the country's borders and become an international celebrity: Kumamon, the black bear with the red cheeks that since 2001 is the ambassador for the prefecture of Kumamoto in the island of Kyushu. It was first created to celebrate the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen (bullet train) and immediately became popular all over Japan, attracting thousands of tourists and billions of yen in merchandising revenue. And one example of these great merchandise items, officially licensed by Kumamoto Prefecture, is the Kumamon Nightlight!

Available in a very compact size (about 14.6 x 12 x 9.8 cm, 5.7 x 4.7 x 3.9"), the Kumamon Nightlight fits in pretty much any available space in any room. As the name suggests, it was created as a tabletop lamp to keep beside your bed but you can actually use it anywhere – it is small and light enough to hold in your palm! It is made of silicone so won't break even if dropped, and only needs three AAA batteries to power its LED lamp for hours!
