Porco Rosso in a Trench Coat Music Box

Studio Ghibli anime character ornament

He could very well be Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca! Dressed in a long beige trench coat with the lapels raised, his hat worn low, and with sunglasses on, Marco Pagot (known around the Adriatic Sea as Porco Rosso) is cupping his lit cigarette in his gloved hand as he walks around Milan, waiting for his Savoia S.21 seaplane to get fixed. This is the scene any fan of Hayao Miyazaki's 1992 anime will conjure up when they see the Porco Rosso in a Trench Coat Music Box!

Approximately 22.5 x 11.5 x 10.5 cm (9 x 4.5 x 4.1") and made of porcelain, the Porco Rosso in a Trench Coat Music Box is a beautiful likeness of the hero of the film: you can almost hear him talking in his harsh voice to his mechanic Fio, his friend Ferrarin, or the boss of the Mamma Aiuto gang. But what you actually hear when you switch the music box part on is "Toki ni wa mukashi no hanashi o," the theme from the film's closing credits and one of the best pieces ever written for a Miyazaki film!
