Nego Cats Board Game

Feline-themed board game and ornaments

Do you know the Japanese strategy game of go, where two players try to occupy as much space as possible on a board by positioning white or black round pieces on it? Tokyo sculptor Yuka Morii came up with something else that tries to occupy as much space as possible, not just on boards but on pretty much anything in the home: cats! And as soon as she realized that premise, creating the Nego Cats Board Game was easy.

The Nego Cats Board Game, whose name is a kind of pun on its two sources of inspiration ("neko" being "cat" in Japanese), consists of an 8 x 8 grid board and 24 cats pieces (12 white and 12 black). The board is approximately 170 x 170 x 3 mm (6.7 x 6.7 x 0.1") so won't take up a lot of space itself. The rules are simple and you can see them in the video below, but the concept is the same as in go: you try to put your differently shaped cats on the board in a way that they cover as much of the available space as they can! Great fun and if you are in no mood to play, the cats can also be excellent decoration pieces, with or without the board!
