Even if you don't know the history of the original building, the charm of the Ikeda Gofukuza Theater Model is immediately evident: the building itself looks less like a theater and more like a Shinto shrine, featuring signs with big letters, pictures of the plays, banners with the actors' names, and even sake barrel offerings for the opening night, which all exude an air of a Japan long gone.
But the Ikeda Gofukuza Theater Model isn't just a 185 x 127 x 153 mm (7.3 x 5 x 6") miniature of a random building: it's a detailed reproduction of a historical wooden playhouse in Osaka, which existed from the Meiji period (1868-1912) until the late 1960s. Because of its importance, the building was then transferred to the Meiji Village open-air architecture museum in Aichi Prefecture and was eventually designated a National Important Cultural Property. So more than a simple model, this is a piece of Japanese architectural history that adds real character to your space!
