Porco Rosso 30th Anniversary Sukajan Jacket

Perhaps Japan's first postwar contribution to international fashion, the sukajan bomber jackets (aka souvenir jackets or Yokosuka jackets) were originally made of parachute canopies and then of ordinary silk. Embroidered with Japanese themes, they were sold to American soldiers as souvenirs in Yokosuka, and have since become one of the most recognizable parts of modern Japanese culture. The Porco Rosso 30th Anniversary Sukajan Jacket is a tribute to that part of fashion history and, at the same time, a tribute to another Japanese culture institution: the anime maestro Hayao Miyazaki and the three decades since the release of one of his classics, the 1992 Porco Rosso.

The film is about seaplane pilots engaged in dogfights over Italy in the late 1920s and early 1930s, and this is what the main artwork on the back of the Porco Rosso 30th Anniversary Sukajan Jacket features. Specifically, the planes of the protagonist, Porco Rosso, and the main antagonists, the Mamma Aiuto gang. On the front you get a portrait of Porco himself and another shot of his plane. All this in amazingly vivid colors, created by Ghibli Studio in collaboration with Osaka jeans manufacturer Studio D'Artisan, and available in four sizes (S, M, L, and XL)!
