Yume Copper Tea Caddy

Classic Japanese tea accessory

Niigata Prefecture in the northwest part of Honshu is mostly famous for its sake and rice but one of its cities, Tsubame, is known for something completely different: copper ware and more recently, cutlery. The Yume Copper Tea Caddy is a fine example of Tsubame's craftsmanship tradition that goes back to the 18th century and, at the same time, an accessory that an avid tea drinker will certainly appreciate – especially if your tea of choice is loose-leaf Japanese green teas like sencha or gyokuro.

Shaped like a classic chazutsu tea canister, the Yume Copper Tea Caddy is about 89 x 110 mm (3.5 x 4.3") big, weighs about 354 g (12.5 oz), and can hold about 200 g (7 oz) of your favorite tea. Like all chazutsu, it has an inner lid for extra protection of your tea from humidity (always a concern in Japan!) and comes with a tea scoop made of the same dark copper but a different texture (the caddy itself has a unique hammered texture with a hexagon motif). And since this is a modern classic, it comes in a paulownia wood box.
