Yawataya Isogoro Togarashi Spices and Condiments Collection

Traditional Japanese condiments assortment

Compared to other cuisines in the broader East Asia region, Japan's are often called soft when it comes to spiciness: the Japanese tend to go for subtle shades of flavors and manage to cook pretty much everything in their vast repertoire of dishes with just a handful of mild condiments. But there are times when even they want to add some bite to their plate and this is when Shichimi Togarashi, a mix of seven spices, comes in handy. And everyone agrees that the best Shichimi Togarashi comes from Yawataya Isogoro in Nagano, the creator of the Yawataya Isogoro Togarashi Spices and Condiments Collection!

The Yawataya Isogoro Togarashi Spices and Condiments Collection is an assortment of everything that has made Yawataya Isogoro a household name in Japan the last 300 years or so (the shop first opened in 1736). Other than the original Shichimi Togarashi in its classic 14 g (0.5 oz) can, the set contains a can of Yuzu Shichimi and a bottle each of Shichimi Stir-fry Oil, Shichimi Ponzu, Shichimi Sesame Rayu Oil (great for your gyoza dumplings), and the special Shichimi Bird Eye Vinegar, made using African chili peppers that look like birds' eyes. Try them and treat your palate to a whole new world of flavors!
