Wasara Square Paper Plate Set

High-quality disposable tableware

One thing that people immediately fall in love with in Japan is tableware: more often than not made in unusual shapes, textures, and colors, Japanese plates, dishes, bowls, and cups are chosen to complement the food and change according to season or locality. Normally you would expect this not to apply to disposable tableware but the Wasara Square Paper Plate Set is the proof that it does: despite being made to be thrown away after one use, these plates look and feel like vintage handmade artisan pottery!

The plates in the set are made from bagasse, which is a fiber that comes after the juice has been extracted from sugarcane. This means that these plates have been made without harming even a small tree. They come in four sizes (small, medium, large, and extra large – for the exact dimensions of each, see below) and they come in sets of either 12 (the small set) or six (the medium, large, and extra large sets). Practical, beautiful, and eco-friendly, they are the perfect example of how even the most mundane thing can become art in Japan!
