Vehicles that transform to robots have been a staple of Japanese science fiction toys (and manga and anime!) for almost half a century, since the 1980 lines Micro Change and Diaclone by toy maker Takara, which became the inspiration for the original Transformers. And now Bandai takes the concept one step further with its new Unitroborn series, which won the 2022 Excellence Award in the Action Toy category at the Japan Toy Awards. Take a look at the Unitroborn Unitroboapplelobster!
The name says it all: the Unitroborn Unitroboapplelobster is a three-way transforming robot: it starts as an apple, turns into a lobster, which in turn becomes a fighting robot! When it is in its robot self, it's about 18.5 cm (7.3") tall, so you can either play with it like a toy or make it part of your robotic figures collection. It doesn't need batteries and or special tools to make it change from apple to lobster to robot – just your brains and imagination!
