Tsuyuki Woodworking Inlay Tissue Holder Shiro Koyosegi

Traditional woodwork tissue box cover

Woodworking of various types is one of the traditional crafts that can be found all over Japan. When your land is three quarters forests, it's only natural that you develop crafts using wood. Among the different styles of woodworking, the marquetry from Hakone, an area in Kanagawa Prefecture with spectacular views of Mount Fuji, stands out because it consists of exquisite mosaics in all types of designs, made with small pieces of wood in various colors. This type of marquetry has now been used to create the Tsuyuki Woodworking Inlay Tissue Cover Shiro Koyosegi!

Big enough to fit all standard tissue boxes (about 13.5 x 27 x 9 cm or 5.3 x 10.6 x 3.5"), the Tsuyuki Woodworking Inlay Tissue Cover Shiro Koyosegi combines several classic Japanese patterns of the type called Edo komon on a white background. The result is elegant and stylish, even if you don't notice the fabulous inlay work of the Hakone yosegi-zaiku craftspeople. And don't be fooled by its delicate looks: the wood has been finished with urethane paint so is quite resilient and perfectly suitable for everyday use!
