Traditional Japanese Uchiwa Fan Kumamon Aopanda
Classic crafts in local mascot and TikTok character design
If you hear someone saying that tradition means things remaining unchanged, you can be sure they aren't Japanese: even a superficial look at Japanese history reveals that new things are being introduced all the time, many of them fused with the existing ones, and after a few years no one even remembers when they were new. The Traditional Japanese Uchiwa Fan Kumamon Aopanda is a perfect example of that fusion of old and new since it combines an item made in a classic way but illustrated with two types of very contemporary images.
The fan itself is made of bamboo and handmade Japanese washi paper, and has been dyed using persimmon juice to give it a special type of color that is considered very stylish in classical Japanese aesthetics. As for the visuals, the Traditional Japanese Uchiwa Fan Kumamon Aopanda comes in two types (C and D) featuring a mix of Kumamon, the black bear that is the mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture, and Aopanda, a big and small panda couple that have become celebrities on TikTok! Excellent as an actual fan or, combined with the optional display stand, as an ornament.
