Wind chimes are a part of Japanese life and culture: big or small, metallic or glass, in simple or complicated shapes, you can find them everywhere, especially during summer when the Japanese believe their high-pitched sound offers some relief from the heat. The Timbre Tori Door Chime is based on the same premise – you can tell the moment you listen to its sound! The difference is that this "bird" (in Japanese, tori) doesn't need a breeze to make it sing: all you need to do is open the door.
The Timbre Tori Door Chime is the brainchild of award-winning Tokyo designer Mikiya Kobayashi, who uses plain materials in simple shapes with matte surfaces to create little moments of visual (or in the case of this chime, visual and aural) fun in our everyday life. The Tori Door Chime comes in navy blue, light brown, or pale orange, is approximately 98 x 70 x 40 mm (3.9 x 2.8 x 1.6"), and is magnetic so can stick on any metallic door. And every time the door opens or closes, the bird's tail feathers move and make a soft, soothing sound!
