The Kyoto Tale of Genji Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) Nishijin-ori Cushion
Traditional weave with classic Kyoto images
Nishijin-ori weave is one more of those things that the Japanese imported from China but made very much their own, to the extent that now everybody thinks of the fabric as quintessentially Japanese. A type of brocade, originally made of silk and with bright colors woven together with gold and silver, Nishijin-ori is featured in obi sashes for kimono (and sometimes in the kimono themselves), bags for katana swords, and occasionally even in artwork. Or in the case of the Kyoto Tale of Genji Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) Nishijin-ori Cushion, in decorative cushions!
The Kyoto Tale of Genji Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) Nishijin-ori Cushion uses the Nishijin method with polyester fabric to guarantee not only exquisite looks but also durability. The 35 x 35 cm (13.8 x 13.8") cushion features images on the front characteristic of Kyoto including the Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) and the former imperial villa Nijo Castle, while between them are figures of ladies-in-waiting dressed in the costumes of the old imperial court immortalized in the novel The Tale of Genji. A magnificent piece of textile craftsmanship that is a must-have for all lovers of Japan's old capital!
