Tamiya Walking and Swimming Penguin Robot

Aquatic bird building kit

A penguin might sound like an unusual choice for a robot-making kit but it presents a very interesting challenge: you want something that can move equally well both on land and in water, and you want the transition to be seamless. And with the Tamiya Walking and Swimming Penguin Robot, it is! Tamiya has extensive know-how in making these educational toy robots and the engine and gearbox that are used to power the penguin can indeed perform as good in the water as they can out of it.

The Tamiya Walking and Swimming Penguin Robot kit contains everything you need to build a 143 x 123 x 172 mm (3.3 x 5.2 x 4.2") little robot that can walk and swim like a real penguin. You need some simple tools like a pair of nippers, a cutter, and a Philips screwdriver as well as an AAA battery for the engine that powers the bird. If the robot has been assembled well, the walking and swimming movements will work immediately. The only thing you need to do is move the rudder so your penguin changes directions when in the water!
