Tamiya Walking and Swimming Duck

Duck-shaped robot building kit

You know what they say: if it walks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is a duck. Not anymore, though: it can also be the Tamiya Walking and Swimming Duck, a accurate mechanical replica of a duck that you can create yourself. The only thing missing for it to pass the duck test is the quacking, but we reckon you can supply the soundtrack yourself!

When fully assembled, the Tamiya Walking and Swimming Duck measures 157 x 83 x 107 mm (6.2 x 3.3 x 4.2") and only needs a single AAA battery to get going. You won't need any glue to put it together but will need some basic tools like a cutter, pair of nippers, and couple of Philips screwdrivers (one medium and one large). While building it, you can study how the mechanism connects the movement of the head and how the feet work inside the water and on solid ground. Who said that all robots need to be human-shaped?!
