One of the most unusual and characteristic rituals of sumo wrestling is the throwing of salt by the wrestlers before a bout. This is done to purify the dohyo ring and is so important that each day of every 15-day tournament about 45 kg (99 lbs) of salt are thrown around. The Sumo Wrestler Salt Shaker is a fun way to recreate this ritual every time you have a meal, bringing the sumo ring to your plate!

The Sumo Wrestler Salt Shaker is 5 x 7 x 10 cm (1.9 x 2.7 x 3.9") big and holds up to 18 spoonfuls of salt, which is enough to keep your food tasty for weeks on end. It is made of Sueki-style ceramic and is handmade, so you know that each piece is unique. You can fill it up from the opening in its base and the salt comes out from a small hole in the wrestler's hand, as would happen at the beginning of a sumo bout in Tokyo's Kokugikan Stadium!
