China has been an inspiration for Japan for centuries, especially its classic literature works, which have been told and retold in many different ways including, of course, in manga and anime. Among the great Chinese classics is the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a semi-fictionalized epic set in the first three centuries of the Common Era and featuring hundreds of characters. Among them is the general, politician, and warlord Lu Bu, a strong master of archery and horse-riding who also wielded a special weapon called a fangtian ji (sort of like a halberd but with a spear tip and crescent blades on both edges). The Sky Piercer Halberd Paper Knife is an incredible miniature of that weapon!
Fans of historical manga will immediately recognize the Sky Piercer Halberd Paper Knife as Lu Bu's weapon from Sangokushi, the manga version of the Chinese classic written and illustrated by Mitsuteru Yokoyama between 1971 and 1987. Even if you don't, though, you'll immediately appreciate the fine work that has gone into making this 233 mm (9.2") replica. It has three actual blades, sharpened by professional sharpeners in Gifu Prefecture's Seki City, known for its cutlery. Use it as a letter opener or an ornament, and relive the heroic times when the states of Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Eastern Wu fought for dominance of the Middle Kingdom!
