The jackets in Japanese martial arts (called keikogi) are a modified version of the jackets the hikeshi firefighters wore in the Edo period (1600-1868). The manufacturer of the Sasicco Urban Tote has been producing these keikogi for over a century (the company was founded back in 1921) and their know-how in reinforced sashiko stitching used in these clothes is nothing short of amazing.
