For practicality, messenger bags are hard to beat: for school, work, or even everyday use, these bags have become a must-have since the 1950s when they were introduced to the public by New York company De Martini Globe Canvas, who made them for the city's (in)famous bicycle messengers. The Sasicco Shoulder Bag 30 celebrates the original idea and its efficiency, and adds a uniquely Japanese touch that connects the firefighters of Japan's Edo period (1600-1868) to martial artists: a thick cotton fabric reinforced by a stitching called sashiko.
The cotton that has been used for the Sasicco Shoulder Bag 30 comes from Aichi Prefecture, the home of Tanei, who has been making uniforms for martial arts (judo, kendo fencing, etc.) for over 100 years, following the method used for Edo firefighter jackets. The bag is 290 x 400 x 160 mm (11.4 x 15.7 x 6.3") big, has a very wide (160 mm / 6.3") strap to make it unbelievably comfortable even when full, and has five pockets (three inside and two outside) so you can put all your belongings in order. The bag is available in black and in the black and white checkered pattern once used for firefighter jackets in Edo.
