Sasicco Leaf Shoulder Bag

Messenger-style bag made with traditional stitching

What started off as a tool for soldiers and messengers was taken up by college students and then spread to everybody because it's so easy to use, comfortable to carry even when full and heavy, and, thanks to various design transformations all over the world, stylish too. Yes, it is the messenger bag, worn diagonally across the chest by people of all ages the world over and made from almost any material you can imagine. Or, as is the case with the Sasicco Leaf Shoulder Bag, even from some you can't – like the fabric used in making martial arts jackets!

It is true, though: Aichi Prefecture's Tanei has taken the sashiko enforced stitching it uses to make martial arts clothing (and which in turn comes from the jackets of Japanese firefighters from the 17th and 18th century) and applied it to some of its Sasicco line of bags. The Sasicco Leaf Shoulder Bag is the messenger/shoulder version and at 235 x 350 x 310 mm (9.2 x 13.8 x 12.2") and with five pockets (three inside and two outside), it will become your go-to everyday bag for casual and not-so-casual occasions. It weighs only 330 g (11.6 oz) and is available in black, red, and firefighter sashiko (small black and white check).
