Back in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, the firefighters of Edo (old Tokyo) used to wear cotton jackets with a thick stitching that wouldn't catch fire easily and that could be sunk in water to prevent them from getting burned when they walked into the fires. This type of stitching, called sashiko, was later used in martial arts clothes. Among the companies making them for over a century is Tanei from Aichi Prefecture, the manufacturer also behind the Sasicco Content Bag!
Tanei has put its know-how from judo and kendo (fencing) uniforms into making Sasicco Content Bag, making an everyday shoulder bag that is incredibly strong but at the same time very stylish and very practical. Thanks to its banana-style shape, the bag is deceptively big so can fit not just your usual everyday things but even a couple of items of clothing or an extra pair of shoes. It has two pockets on the inside and two on the outside for sorting all the contents out. And you can get it in simple black or in the Edo firefighter sashiko pattern (the stitching is the same for both).
