Meri Anne A102 Indoor Flip-Flops

Modern version of traditional Japanese zori sandals

They are usually associated with surfing culture but the truth is the surfers didn't discover flip-flops: the Japanese have been using split-toe sandals (called zori) for centuries and, as a matter of fact, they are part of their traditional attire (women and men's kimono, hakama pleated trousers, etc.) and you can see extremely expensive versions of them as formal footwear in weddings and even state receptions in Japan. Despite being (hand)made in Japan, though, the Meri Anne A102 Indoor Flip-Flops aren't formal: they are casual slipper-like sandals made to be worn at home.

What makes the Meri Anne A102 Indoor Flip-Flops special is that their body is made of a 50% cotton, 50% polyester knitting yarn. Besides giving them a special look and making them washable (or, as their creators recommend, hand-washable), this technique results in an uneven surface that work as a foot massager as you walk around the house. Having the toe separator positioned closer to your big toe than regular flip-flops, they make your toes splay and feel more comfortable. Try them on (they are available in three sizes) and see why the Japanese still use them!
