Working iron has been a point of pride for the people of Iwate in Japan's Tohoku region since the Edo period (1600–1868). The cast-iron items are known as Nanbu or Nambu tekki, and still very much sought-after today because of they are rust-resistant, sturdy design and uniform circulation of heat. While the most common Nanbu items are tetsubin kettles, some of the local workshops use traditional techniques to create more imaginative objects, like the Oigen Snow Lattice Trivet!
A trivet is a stand for a kettle or a pot (like the Japanese donabe earthen pot) and the Oigen Snow Lattice Trivet supports any you have in your kitchen. At 158 x 138 x 20 mm (6.2 x 5.4 x 0.8"), it provides ample support for a variety of vessels. But thanks to its exquisite design drawing inspiration from a snowflake, it is also a beautiful decorative ornament for your living room wall. A product of the know-how and artistry of the Oigen foundry that has been operating since 1852, this is a perfect mix of form and function that only Japanese artisans can achieve!
