The Odawara Casting Totoro Omamori Bell Amulet is a perfect illustration of the penetration the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have in the Japanese culture: the metal casting techniques in Odawara, a city in Kanagawa Prefecture, date back to the civil wars of the Muromachi period (1336-1573), yet have been used here to create perhaps the most emblematic of all Miyazaki characters, Totoro, from the 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro. And so every fan can now have a unique traditional object shaped like Japan's most adorable forest spirit!
The Odawara Casting Totoro Omamori Bell Amulet is 3.2 x 4.4 x 3.2 cm (1.3 x 1.7 x 1.3") and is made of brass, one of the metals the casters of Odawara have been working with for centuries. You can get it in two colors, natural brass or black, and it comes with a 8.5 cm (3.3") rayon cord, which you can use for hanging the bell. The "omamori" in the name refers to the amulets sold in Japanese temples and shrines that people buy and hang on their bags. Go about your life with the knowledge that Totoro is accompanying and offering some spiritual protection, just like he did for Mei and Satsuki in the classic anime.
