Nendo Linear Dice

Designer take on gambling cubes

Designers are known for redefining our idea of the everyday things around us. Ask the most talented among them and they will say that this is the main purpose of design. Japanese designers take this one step further, often coming up with concepts that don't look even remotely related to our image of the original. Take Nendo's Linear Dice, for example. They might have the word "dice" in their name, but thinking them as dice takes a mental leap that the mind refuses to make.

But they are, indeed, dice and, as a matter of fact, three of them: one with four prongs for numbers 1 to 4, one with six prongs for 1 to 6, and one with eight prongs for 1 to 8. This means you can use them for regular dice games but also board games, either alone or in various combinations. They are made of polyamide resin and each prong has a number on it, so you can tell what you have rolled! The dice are available in an all-gray set or a multicolor version with purple, pink, and blue prongs.
