When talking about Japan's big cities, people usually confine themselves to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, with the occasional Hiroshima thrown in. Nagoya rarely gets a mention, despite the fact that it's the country's fourth biggest city (bigger than Kyoto and Hiroshima) and with some very interesting history. Including a fabric dyeing tradition called Nagoya yuzen, of which the Nagoya Yuzen Shark Pattern Folding Fan is an amazing example that gives your wardrobe a really special touch, even if you're not dressed in kimono!
Traditional artisans from Suehirodo, a company in Nagoya that has been making fans since 1912 have dyed the Nagoya Yuzen Shark Pattern Folding Fan navy blue, a color that has been identified with adult men since the times of the samurai and with a pattern called same (sa-meh), which means shark. This beautiful, elegant fan is 22.5 cm (8.9") long, its ribs are made of bamboo, and comes with a matching case and a box made of paulownia wood like most examples of classical Japanese craftsmanship!
