Forty years since My Neighbor Totoro first appeared on Japan's movie screens, you would expect the imagination of the Studio Ghibli designers would have been exhausted when it comes to merchandise featuring the friendly forest spirit from Hayao Miyazaki's most classic among classics. But as long as the appetite of Totoro fans remains unsatisfied, there will always be something new and more exciting. And few Totoro-themed items bring the setting of the anime to your desk in 3D than the My Neighbor Totoro Hourglass Diorama!
Using polyester resin, the artists from Studio Ghibli's official merchandise team have created a scene that could have very well been in the movie: the big Totoro is sitting under a camphor tree while the medium-sized Totoro is going around collecting acorns and berries, and the small Totoro is standing on one of the top branches and overlooking the scene. If you look closely between the tree's branches, you can see a couple of Susuwatari soot sprites and from one of the branches, a three-minute hourglass is hanging, making the 100 x 160 x 90 mm (3.9 x 6.3 x 3.5") My Neighbor Totoro Hourglass Diorama not only fun but also useful!
