One of the things people love about izakaya, the often low-key taverns that abound in Japanese cities' countless alleys, is that sake is served in wooden box-like containers called masu. Once a measuring box for rice, the masu is today a way to enjoy your sake and some people believe the hinoki cypress wood they are made from adds an extra dimension to the sake. The Masu Cypress Square Wine Cooler takes this relationship between alcoholic beverages and the masu to the next level, offering a novel way to serve your wine!
Standard 180 ml (6 fl oz) masu are 8.5 cm x 8.5 cm x 5.2 cm (3.3 x 3.3. x 2") but the Masu Cypress Square Wine Cooler is 142 x 142 x 285 mm (5.6 x 5.6 x 11.2"), making it ideal for regular 750 ml (25.4 fl oz) wine bottles or 720 ml (24.3 fl oz) sake bottles. Since it's made of wood, you don't get condensation on the outside so won't need to wrap it with a towel as you do with metallic bucket-type coolers, and the bottom has anti-slip pads for easier handling. A beautiful piece of traditional craftsmanship from Gifu Prefecture that will find its place in any wine lover's collection!
