Marutora Denim Samue

Denim version of Buddhist monk clothes

When performing a service, Buddhist priests look spectacular in their brightly colored robes or, if they meditating, very solemn in their black ones. But when they're doing work around the temple, which is also a very important part of their Buddhist practice, they usually wear a simple cotton jacket-and-trousers set called samue, which is comfortable and practical. As a matter of fact, samue is so practical that it's been adopted by all kinds of craftspeople and other laborers, and is even available in more modern fabrics – like the Marutora Denim Samue!

True to the traditional type, the Marutora Denim Samue is the exact same design as the ones you see in temples all over Japan. The difference is that it's made from top-quality, 10-ounce denim fabric, dyed with indigo by the same specialist artisans from Kojima in Okayama Prefecture that have made Japanese jeans a huge success all over the world! It comes in one size (see dimensions below) that should fit most average sizes and has elastic leg openings, cord fasteners, and plenty of pockets so is perfect for both work and leisure!
