Lion Mask Ornament

Traditional Japanese New Year decoration

Chinese lions (shishi) are one of the many things that came to Japan from China and stuck because the Japanese fell in love with them. In the case of the shishi lion, people loved it so much that they made it a standard for New Year celebrations and even today, the most traditional areas of Tokyo have street performers who wear a red mask with white hair and gold teeth, and dance while playfully pretending to bite people's head for good luck. The Lion Mask Ornament is a very realistic replica of these dance masks!

Available in two sizes, measuring 14 x 23 x 16.5 cm (5.5 x 9 x 6.5") and 21 x 35 x 25 cm (8.3 x 13.8 x 9.8") respectively, the Lion Mask Ornament makes for an impressive decorative piece. Put it anywhere in your space and it's guaranteed to become the center of attention. They aren't made to be actually worn but the bigger one has a movable jaw, so it's the closest you can get to the real thing, and either version is a great way to create in your home a uniquely Japanese festive atmosphere!
