Timbre Icebell Ice Tray

Make ice cubes that look and ring like bells

There's something to be said about traditional Japanese culture's flair for the understated. Be it in the fine arts or simple everyday endeavors, Japanese aesthetics dictate that there should be subtle indications guiding the viewer or listener to notice things they normally wouldn't. This was the concept behind award-winning designer Ryosuke Fukusada's Timbre Icebell Ice Tray.

The set includes a silicone ice tray and a stirrer. You just add the water as you would for any ice tray and when it freezes you get eight perfect bell-shaped ice cubes, which, when moved around with the stirrer, sound like bells. Like many things designed in Japan, you can think of the Timbre Icebell as just another crazy idea but Fukusada invites you to use it as an opportunity to re-appreciate something as simple as pouring a drink and stirring the ice.
