What started as a souvenir for US soldiers during the Japanese occupation (1947-1952) became an icon of pop culture fashion that is still as popular today as it was 70 years ago: the sukajan jacket (named after Yokosuka, the city in Kanagawa Prefecture where it was invented) featuring spectacular embroideries on the back and sometimes on the front and even the sleeves.
