Hacoa Wooden Ashtray

Smoking isn't as popular as it used to be and that is certainly a good thing for the health of everyone involved. It's still quite popular in Japan, though, so Hacoa, the creator of many beautiful things made of wood in the finest woodworking tradition of the Echizen area in Fukui Prefecture, decided to give smokers something exquisite for their desk or coffee table. The result is the Hacoa Wooden Ashtray and any smoker will love it. And even if you're not a smoker, it is still a stunning ornament that can be used for other purposes too!

Unlike the brand's other creations, the Hacoa Wooden Ashtray couldn't entirely be made of wood, since fire and wood don't exactly mix well. The actual ashtray part is made of cast iron using techniques from the Takaoka copperware tradition of Toyama Prefecture, with natural chestnut wood used for the lid, which also functions as a coaster. At 88 x 88 x 40 mm (3.5 x 3.5 x 1.6") and weighing 850 g (1.9 lb), this is an object that makes a strong decorative statement and showcases what traditional craftspeople can do with even simple everyday items!
