Hacoa Wood and Tin Sake Set

Designer take on traditional alcohol serveware

Tin and wood sounds like an unusual combination for a sake bottle and cup, or does it? As lovers of sake know, the Japanese make drinking sets for their traditional alcoholic beverage from any materials they can think of and while the most common is, of course, porcelain, you can find amazing sets made of glass, different types of pottery, and even tin and wood. As in the case with the Hacoa Wood and Tin Sake Set. The difference is that no other set has this level of design and craftsmanship behind it!

The Hacoa Wood and Tin Sake Set comprises two items: a 264 x 104 mm (10.4 x 4") tokkuri bottle and a 251 x 36 mm (9.9 x 1.4") choko cup made of, respectively, tin and natural cherry tree wood. Both pieces are the product of craftsmanship traditions: the Echizen area in Fukui Prefecture is famous for its woodworking and lacquerware and the Takaoka area in Toyama Prefecture has been making copper and tin items for centuries. The design, on the other hand, is very modern and functional, since it allows the cup to fit intuitively on the top of the bottle for storage!
