The idea came to designer and artist Norihiko Terayama when walking in a field of wild flowers in the spring: if the flowers were a centimeter (0.4 inch) apart, you could lie down among them and measure your height. So why not make a ruler like that? From there on, it was just a matter of finding the right material (acrylic), flowers (red wildflowers), and dimensions (40 x 300 x 8 mm / 1.6 x 11.8 x 0.3") and then the f,l,o,w,e,r,s Ruler was born!
A miniature of the ruler its creator envisioned, the f,l,o,w,e,r,s Ruler enriches your everyday life. The flowers enclosed inside it are indeed placed 1 centimeter (0.4 of an inch) apart so it actually can function as a 30 cm (11.8") ruler. The difference is that since every flower has been handpicked by Terayama, every notch in the ruler is unique – and so is every ruler, making this a true work of art that brings nature in your space in a different and exciting way!
