After Pikachu, Eevee are arguably the more popular Pokemon: between their adorable looks that are a mix of characteristics of rabbits, cat, and foxes and their ability to evolve into eight different forms, they are also available in a wide range of Pokemon-themed merchandise. But what sets apart the Eevee Edo Kimekomi Ningyo Doll is that besides being a beautiful and unusual rendering of the Pokemon, it's also a fine specimen of a traditional art that goes back to the Edo period (1600-1868)!
Using a technique called kimekomi, where the basic shape of the doll is made from wood or cork and then covered with pieces of fabric that is pushed into specially carved grooves, the craftspeople from Mataro Ningyo, a traditional Tokyo doll workshop founded in 1919, have made the Eevee Edo Kimekomi Ningyo Doll a true work of art! It is 150 x 120 x 130 mm (5.9 x 4.7 x 5.1"), and comes with a wooden base and tag with its name in Japanese for extra authenticity!
