Edamame Balance Game

Soybeans in the pod Jenga-style drinking game

Considering that drinking is not just entertainment but almost a social obligation in Japan, it's no wonder that drinking games would be popular among locals. As a matter of fact, they have existed ever since the times when drinks plus entertainment equaled geisha! The Edamame Balance Game is a less ritualistic version of conventional drinking games but that doesn't make it any less fun. Inspired by edamame soybeans in the pod, something that in the mind of any red-blooded Japanese is immediately associated with beer, you can test your sense of balance against the alcohol you are consuming – and the results are hilarious!

Sounds complicated? It isn't! What you get in the Edamame Balance Game is 18 edamame soybean replicas (nine light and nine heavy), a balancing base shaped as a traditional bamboo sieve, and an octagonal die. Taking turns, you throw the die and then put as many edamame beans on the base as the die indicates. Since the base's bottom is round, every move brings you (or your opponents) closer to bringing the whole thing down!
