Doraemon Hanafuda Cards Set

Popular manga and anime character traditional playing card deck

Hanafuda translates as "flower cards." Going back to the mid-16th century, playing cards were brought to Japan by the Portuguese (playing cards are still called "karuta" in Japanese, from the Portuguese "carta") and they have been used to play various games during the centuries since. At some point, hanafuda emerged as a special decorative type of playing card. The illustrations on hanafuda cards typically feature plants (hence the name) but there's room for plenty of design variations – and this is where the Doraemon Hanafuda Cards Set comes in: here, the usual flowers are intermixed with images from Doraemon, arguably one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time!

Like all hanafuda decks, the Doraemon Hanafuda Cards Set is a deck of 48 cards divided into twelve suits, one for each month of the year. Doraemon, Nobita Nobi, Shizuka, Takeshi, and Doraemon's sister, Dorami, all appear in some form on the cards, cleverly integrated with the usual hanafuda imagery (flowers, animals, objects, etc.) At 54 x 32 mm (2.1 x 1.3"), these are standard hanafuda cards that you can use for regular card games as well as being a unique collector's item for Doraemon fans!
